Big Barking Dog.

Hi - we have a big dog in our apartment complex (which is dog friendly) and when the owners aren't there the dog barks, a lot.

Any suggestions on how to keep him quite (amused)?

Usually a problem with large dogs in apartments unless they are very old and then they can't be bothered.

Is the dog outside or inside?

Many vets will recommend a citronella collar. You can hire them from most vets. Every time they bark the collar lets out a foul smell and taste and they stop almost immediately. They are a collar with a little square box on them and even when we gave the collar back we created a little box to go on our boy's collar so he still thinks the citronella is in the box. He doesn't bark at all anymore.

We take the collar off when we get home but when we go to work we put it back on so he knows to behave. You just have to convince your neighbour who owns the dog that he has to take those steps.

I am sure the by-laws include noise clauses. You just need to let the owner know they are in breach and that they need to take steps to control their animal. They probably just don't know the dog barks when they are not home. A pleasant little chat with your neighbour to alert him to his dog's behaviour will probably do the trick and you won't need to take it further.

Hope this helps

Yep it does. I had heard of the collars but not sure how they worked.

Cheers
