600 apartments sell at The Waterfront

Friday, 14th January 2011

Last year 600 apartments were purchased at The Waterfront - an environmentally-sustainable residential community at Wentworth Point that has embraced the Mediterranean lifestyle.

All 215 apartments in Corsica and almost all the 301 apartments in Catania sold, while contracts were exchanged on more than three-quarters of the 162 apartments in its latest stage, Messina. The strong sales underline the popularity of the resort on the western shore of Homebush Bay, which has tree-lined cobblestone streets, landscaped parklands, a central square, stunning recreational facilities and award-winning architecture. At the pet-friendly estate you can browse for European delicacies, be pampered at the day spa and hairdressing salon, wander through the colourful and fragrant gardens, or simply people-gaze as you sip a silky cappuccino. Scores of construction workers are active at The Waterfront, where the trio of buildings that make up the Corsica stage have almost topped out. The buildings range from six storeys to eight on the corner of Baywater Drive and Hill Road, encircling a central courtyard which will have mature native trees, plants and vegetation. Construction of Catania is scheduled to start next month, while Messina is expected to get underway by mid-year. Corsica is on track to be completed by the end of 2011, with the other two stages being finalised around 12 months later. “All new stock we release is being snapped up quickly,” said Paul Wainwright, the Sales and Marketing Director of The Waterfront. “There is a broad mix of investors, owner-occupiers, first home buyers and empty nesters here, and we can’t see the demand abating, especially knowing that Sydney has a chronic undersupply of affordable housing.” The Waterfront has also proven an overwhelming rental success with a vacancy rate of less than 1%, making it extremely attractive for investors. “We are on the border of Sydney Olympic Park, which is becoming a major commercial centre, and are close to ferry, bus and train services,” Mr Wainwright said. “Apart from the convenience, Wentworth Point is one of Sydney’s few master-planned suburbs, so everything is pristine. It just continues to improve.” The Waterfront holds broad appeal for people of all ages, cultures and interests, and entices couples, families, professionals, singles and retirees. It has its own library and a recreational club which has such resort-style facilities as an indoor heated 25-metre pool, gymnasium, two tennis courts and a function centre with a commercial kitchen and seating for 150 people. Currently around 2,600 residents live at The Waterfront, and they are very active in organising social events and forming special-interest clubs, of which there are more than 20. The residents banded together to start a community website that encourages people to participate in the growing list of activities and events at Wentworth Point. At the heart of The Waterfront is The Piazza, which has become a fashionable milieu for social events, and offers an authentic Italian experience. It supports the surrounding apartment buildings by providing a local village marketplace and hosting special events such as live music, food festivals, sporting expos and classic car displays. The Waterfront’s jetty, walkways, dry-stack feature walls, sandstone planter boxes, and hundreds of mature palm trees have residents feeling they are living in a holiday resort, further enhanced by the scene-setting names of the apartment buildings. Just outside the palm-fringed entrances to The Waterfront is the 480-hectare Millennium Parklands – one of the largest parklands in Sydney – and more than 40 kilometres of cycle paths and walkways to explore. A marketing centre for The Waterfront is open from 10am to 4pm daily within The Piazza, at 21 Bennelong Parkway, Wentworth Point.
